I don't know how new everyone is to this type of forum. (This includes everyone, admin, moderators, and members).
So I'd rather not be backseat-modding and telling what the admins and moderators should do; I actually understand the feeling because I used to be a moderator for an avatar site known as Syndrone Online.
Instead, I'll just be giving suggestions from a moderator's perspective and what needs to be done on this new forum.
Note: For the record, administrators and moderators, you're free to delete this thread and/or lock it if you see the need to do so. Or if I backseat-modded a bit too hard. I'm just throwing suggestions out there to help the forums get started up.
So, for Administrators, you guys need to:
- Create a global "Rules & Guidelines" thread and it needs to be locked, so that members cannot post to it. This is very important as this helps keep order in the forum.
- Create a "Rules" thread for specific forums. What I mean is, create a rules thread specifically for the General forum, FAQ & Suggestions, Communities, and Official Role-play. I can assure you that all these rules will not look the same; they're meant to help moderate the specific forum.
- Create an "Off-Topic/Spam" area for users to kill time while waiting for role-play replies. The General forum CAN get crowded with silly threads of posts that may or may not just be pictures and no words to it.
*NEW* Now that I thought about it, we may need a "Test" forum/sub-forum, too. It can help people test post styles and stuff. :>
Moderators also have work. You guys need to:
- Actually moderate the forums. You guys just can't sit back and relax; the forums CAN and WILL get messy with threads in the wrong spot, people throwing drama all across the board, etc. Stuff like that. There are people who help regulate the rules and that's what you guys do. Moderators don't normally get paid for this, just so you know. It depends on the administrators, really.
Users/members also have responsibility! Don't think I left you guys out of this!
- Follow the rules! No "it's common sense" excuses; not everyone catches on as quickly as you can.
- RESPECT YOUR ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS! I CANNOT emphasize this enough; the administrators and moderators took their time out of their dedicated lives to create and manage this board for you guys! If it wasn't for them, this forum wouldn't be here. Don't do what I'm doing and tell them what their job is! As they say, "Do as I say, not what I do."
Anyways, yeah. These are just suggestions for what needs to be done for a new forum like this. If there's anything else you guys want to include into the thread, before it may or may not get locked, please feel free to say so!
