There are several things in life End does not like. He doesn't like, for example he doesn't like the green wobbly bits in the nasty ass worms that are otherwise tasty, he doesn't like swimming because it makes him all heavy and gross, and he really doesn't like sand in places sand should not bed. But right now he mostly dislikes snakes, which is how he finds himself suddenly much larger and with far more teeth than usual, al elongated body with soft downy fur. The hiss he makes is totally more awesome than the snake, which is probably why the little asshole gives up trying to eat him (since, you know, facing a meal suddenly several times your size will wreck pretty much anyone's day). Serves him right!
It's idleness that has him stay in that form; it doesn't exactly take a great deal of magic to change into it (less even to change out of it) but sometimes when you are very very small it feels good to be very very big. Or so he likes to tell himself! Except there is something missing, something grumpy and clingy which is probably causing all kinds of trouble which is just gonna give End a headache if he doesn't try and deal with it now. Because, you know, he's totally blessed like that. A sigh and he heaves himself up again, plodding through the land because Mal has probably not gone that far and if he has he's likely to turn up sooner rather than later.
There was a time, many years ago, where End had tried to bail on the other and ditch him. Without fail though he had turned up again over and over again until End had just given up and started to tolerate him, eventually finding that just maybe he didn't actually mind his company (enjoyed it maybe, but he wouldn't admit that. It'd probably go to his head and then where would end be?). Which was probably just as well given he was always around, which made it surprising that he wasn't here now and hadn't rushed to try and save him from the big bad snake. What kind of friend failed in the snake protection test?! Honestly!
"I swear to god if you're gonna jump me--" Which was probably only signing him up for exactly that to happen.

It was, perhaps, one of Malus's most undesirable habits that made him disappear from End's company the moment the other Akriri had found himself surprised by a would-be predator. A part of Malus would have been pleased to jump to End's aid, had he felt that it would make his companion anymore interested in his constant presence. As it was, the lack of such a thing seemed lately to be the only way in which Malus could attract End to seek him out instead of the other way around. And being wanted, being sought out, even if it was only for the sake of keeping him from doing something disastrous and life-threatening (oh, but not for Malus of course, never for him,) was enough for Malus to temporarily seek a hideaway somewhere End could not immediately find him, waiting for the heavy footfalls of the other Akriri in his larger form to come lumbering into range.
His mind was nearly tipped towards boredom, his sinuous, draconid form curled in the shadows of an elevated cavern carved from ruins and shaped by the fronds of dense green plants when he finally heard End announce himself. The other Akriri, a now constant presence in his life, was something else entirely from the half-known folks that lived in their nestled communities and played host to his hunger for company in the past. He had thought he would grow bored of End. What was there to like about a creature like him for more than a day? Two at most? Something. Malus could not name it, but it was what kept him hidden in the shadows, a singular teal eye dilating as his prey came into sight. End was something to him. That was why he stayed.
Quiet and aware of End's bright form just in front of his hiding spot, Malus slipped down the fallen pillars, serpentine body winding and coiling until he felt sand beneath the tips of his claws. He crept towards the other in his similar form, so much larger than their normal bodies and so much more fun to play with. Close enough now, Malus stopped creeping and sprang to action, pushing away from the ground and catching the flesh just above End's hind legs with his talons, dragging the other back towards him with a pleased snarl. The advantage was his. This was a game he could play over and over again. His tail lashed, body coiling to anticipate whatever End tried to do in return.
"Ah, so the would-be lunch has escaped the serpent, has he?" Malus hissed, his tongue rolling over the words with vicious delight. "How unfortunate. Perhaps I shall eat you instead."

Talons dig into his flanks and honestly the noise he makes isn't something he'll ever admit to, all high pitched and shrill because holyshit! A grunt as he's dragged, lithe body twisting about on itself so he can see what-- who-- is manhandling him so rudely. And of course it can only be one person, the very person he was looking for and the very one who so rudely abandoned him in his time of need (that's what he was calling the snake incident thank you very much!). Ears pin, bright teal eyes narrowing as he scrabbles for purchase in the sand to stop the other dragging him. There is none though and eventually there is nothing to do but retaliate, which is probably exactly what the other wanted in the first place.
"Pretty sure that's illegal--" A faux snap of his jaws in the other's direction, but it is not even close to him and is more an act of frustration than threat. "And gross, gotta be honest." He sticks his tongue out then, long tail coiling around the other's form as he twists himself in an effort to drag the other off him. If it is futile, and it probably will be, he doubles up on himself until they are face to face at which point End just headbutts the other. Because that, obviously, is the way to go with this. Being the mature adult that he is an all~
A loud grumble and he shoves a fore foot in the other's face, shoving at him. "Come ooooon get off! Stop being an asshole, dude--" Probably never gonna happen but he lived in some sort of hope that maybe today would be the day! Probably not though, and if in doubt bite the ear of the one causing you shit! Which was exactly what End did, needle like teeth digging into the furred thing hard enough to smart but not so hard as to cause true damage. A petulant noise and he twists again, shoving and pushing at the other folk trying to force him off and away. It is, truly, a valiant effort~

Malus's laughter culled out the sound of End's attempts at an early escape. His teeth flashed in the sunlight, gleaming when he snorted his delight at his prey, tail lashing in pleasure. Making End entertain him was only one of his many pastimes. But it was by far the most amusing. He flickered his ears at the faux snap, returning it with a sharp single nip to the tip of End's nose. How rude he could be, this one, acting as though he were in charge while complaining so much. Malus let his tail twist a second time, this time coiling around End's to keep it from hitting him.
"Ha, it is neither of those things if no one is around to see," Malus retorted lightly, his tone clipped by a thunderous growl. Now that End was growing feistier, he had to focus to hold his ground. End's attempts to pull him off work only a little in swaying him to the side. Malus slid one paw to the ground, raking his talons through the sand to steady himself above the other dragon-formed Akriri.
"Temper," he hissed, but it was cut short by a roar when End hefted himself up to headbutt him. "Why are you so rude!" He snarled, curling even closer to the other Akriri, fangs bared in something that would have resembled anger to anyone less tuned to Malus's moods. He snapped his teeth at the other, grazing them along End's ear in a teasing threat. His talons slid to find a hold on the other Akriri's sinuous form and pull, trying to make him go crashing down so that Malus could win the fight, even with a forefoot in his face. He snapped at that too, catching the ankle in between his fangs and shaking it. The nip to his ear was enough to make him roar and let go though, scrabbling away with a low hiss. It was the one sensitive place on his body and he would not like it to be in the jaws of an angry, oversized bird.
A low, sharp growl rolled like thunder in the base of his throat. Malus thought for a moment of the infinite possibilities. Then he surged forward, pouncing on End and wrapping his forepaws around the other Akriri, hind legs digging into the dirt. "Not very nice," He hissed, trying to topple End, "I shall teach you some manners."

Frustration runs deep as he tries to twist out of the other's grip, body contorting in weird and wonderful ways in an effort to escape. It doesn't work though, Mal is clingy as hell and End hasn't ever really managed to escape him. It has never worked yet and probably won't now, but he tries anyway because it's the thought that counts really. Mostly he thinks Mal just wants the contact, that the dude is lonely and doesn't actually know how to ask for affection. So instead he grapples and forces it on End like it is a hardship for him to give in the first place. It is a complicated dance, but one they have lead many times before and will probably lead many times in the future.
"Ok but consider I'm around to see it and that totally counts." Grunting his ears ring from the bellow, tail swishing in upset before sticking his tongue out at the other Akriri. "Says you!" Mister mature over here did kind of have a point, because End hadn't really asked to have someone tackle him and then manhandle him like this. Yet here they were and Mal didn't seem like he was going to stop, instead nipping at End's ear and gooood dammit. Pinning them he swung his head away and out of reach, free paw bracing on the ground as his other was bitten.
To an outsider the whole thing maybe looked vicious and terribly unfair, Mal clearly had the advantage and End was not going to win. For all of that though neither of them were being seriously hurt and End didn't take the supposed anger for what it seemed, instead rolling his eyes and scrabbling away when the other lets go.
Mal launches forward again and End rears up, paws locking with the others to prevent the cling. "I don't think you can teach anyone anything about manners~" He said, shoving hard at the other as Mal tries to topple him. Ducking he intends to tackle the other under his forelimbs, twisting his body around Mal and curling toes into fur to keep a tight grip. Just as Mal could cling and not be removed so too could End who was, as it happened, intent on nipping at the other's ears until he gave up.
